Institute of Personnel Banking (IBPS) issues recruitment notification for the post of Specialist Officer, Clerk and Probationary Officers, every year. Preliminary Online Examination is only qualifying paper, marks obtained by the candidates in this paper are not added in the final score. IBPS PO Exam is conducted in three phases: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam and Interview Process. It is obligatory for an applicant to crack each level of examination to get recruited to the post of Probationary Officer in many Public Sector Banks.
This test contains overall 100 objective type questions of one mark each, which the candidates need to complete in one hour.

0.25 marks get deducted against every question answered wrongly by the candidates. They are given total one hour in order to complete the test. Questions are framed from the subjects like Reasoning, English and Quantitative Aptitude.

Introduction of Descriptive Paper: Similar to SBI PO Exam, IBPS presented Descriptive Paper in its Mains Examination where applicants will be judged on the basis of their written skills. Candidates are required to write an essay and letter which comprise 25 marks and have to be completed in 30 minutes.
• The overall time given for each segment has also been changed.
• No separate paper will be organized for Computer Applications. Reasoning is now merged up with Computer Aptitude segment and this whole section will comprise 45 questions of a total of 60 marks.
• The overall time given for IBPS PO Mains Exam has also been altered from 140 minutes to 180 minutes.
This test contains overall 200 multiple choice questions; which candidates need to complete in 2 hours.
The marks obtained by the candidates in this test are added in the final merit. 0.25 marks are deducted on each wrong answer given by candidate. Questions in this paper are framed from the subjects like Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, Hindi Language and Computer Language.
Interview: Candidates, who clear the IBPS PO Mains test are called for personal interview. The marks obtained by them in the main examination and personal interview determines their selection for the post. The IBPS PO Interview Process will comprise of 100 marks and the least marks for clearing this round will be 40% which is diminished to 35% for applicants belonging to ST/SC/OBC/PWD categories.
0.25 marks will be deducted for each question wrong question attempted by a candidate in both IBPS PO Preliminary Examination& IBPS PO Mains Examination. There will be no deduction of numbers for a question left blank/left unattempted by a candidate.
The final selection of the applicant to the post of Probationary Officer will be done by taking into consideration the collective score of Mains Exam and the Interview Process. The marks obtained in these phases of examination will be considered in the ratio 80:20 correspondingly. A merit list will be created after the Interview Procedure of IBPS PO Exam has been organized. Applicants who make it to the list will be thereforepresented the joining letter by the Bank of their preference.
